Beaches

MacEwen’s Beach

Beautiful sandy beach with huge sand dunes and a long sand bar (at low tide).

Directions: Take the St Peter’s Harbour Road all the way to the end. A sharp right turn puts you on Harbour Road. Follow this road until you hit the sand.

  • Large sand bar approximately 300 feet from shore at low tide
  • Huge sand dunes with a cubby hole
  • Moderately populated beach even on the best beach days
  • Ample parking along the Harbour Road
  • Partial clay road
  • Photos of this beach and dunes can be seen in the Photos page
  • Approx 5 minute (3 km) drive

Lighthouse Beach

Just a short walk from MacEwen’s Beach, Lighthouse Beach features a large light house that once guided ships to the Cairns Road pier (go left on the beach), but now lays nestled behind a sand dune.

Directions: Turn right onto the St Peter’s Harbour Road from Cairns Road and take your first right onto Lighthouse Road (dirt road). A short walk from the parking lot will take you past the light house and onto another beautiful sandy beach.

  • Turn of the century light house available for viewing and photos
  • Lightly populated beach even on the best beach days
  • Ample parking area
  • Single lane clay road – can be tricky if you meet another vehicle
  • Approx 3 minute drive
  • This beach is within walking distance at only 1 mile

Gulf View Beach

One of the hidden gems of PEI! If you find the water too cold at the other beaches, try this one. Warmer water from St Peter’s Bay is carried to this beach before hitting the open ocean.

WARNING: The water gets very deep, very quickly on the left end of this beach. You can actually dive in from the shore. Also, there is a strong east-west current some days that can over power weaker swimmers. If you have inexperienced swimmers or children, it is recommended that you stay to the right (east) on this beach. The waters are shallower and safer on the eastern end.

Directions: Turn left onto the St Peter’s Harbour Road from Cairns Road and take your first left onto Creek Road. Travel approximately half a mile and turn left onto Gulf View Road. Gulf View is a two lane clay road. After about a half mile, you will come to a large open field on your right (facing the beach). Park here and walk towards the bushes to find a small windy path leading you to the shore.

  • Warmer water makes this beach popular with children.
  • Very lightly populated – you may find yourself alone on this beach with the exception of the odd walker/jogger.
  • Something for everyone – deep water to the west, shallow water to the east.
  • Hermit crabs can be found in the shallow warmer water
  • A large pond filled with minnows is a 5 minute walk down the beach to the west
  • Ample parking area
  • Easy access with car
  • Approx 3 minute drive
  • This beach is also within walking distance at only 1 mile

Lakeside Beach

One of the more popular beaches in Eastern PEI.

Directions: Turn left onto the St Peter’s Harbour Road from Cairns Road. Turn right onto St Peter’s Road towards Charlottetown. Drive 2.3km and turn right onto Lakeside Road. Follow Lakeside Road and turn right onto Lakeside Beach Road.

  • Populated beach with beautiful sand
  • Easy access with car
  • Approx 15 minute drive – 8 kms
